How to change your pop-up blocker settings

These instrucrtions should be followed if you are experiencing any problems with our elearning web site including problems downloading files.

Those Annoying Advertisements

Popup blocking software is getting more and more popular these days. Many websites use popups to make money. These popups are quite annoying, so many people install programs that will block popups from opening. This seems like a great idea, but these programs often block useful and legitimate sites too. The SHEilds eLearning site sometimes uses popup windows to show you extra information without you having to leave where you are at the time. An example of this is when course documents offer a download option.

Windows XP Service Pack 2

The new Windows XP Service Pack includes a popup blocker. While this is a much needed feature, it can potentially cause problems with the SHEilds eLearning site. If you've installed the new Service Pack and are having problems with some of the SHEilds eLearning site's features, follow these instructions for allowing popups.

To access the popup blocker's settings:

  1. Firstly Open your web browser (usually Miscrosofts' Internet Explorer)
  2. Click on the Tools menu (alternatively press the crtl+t keys simultaneously)
  3. Click Internet Options
  4. Chose the Privacy tab
  5. Choose Pop-up Blocker
  6. Click on Pop-up Blocker Settings

Add the SHEilds eLearning site to the list of Allowed Sites:

  1. Type in sheilds-elearning.co.uk into the text field
  2. Click Add
  3. Click Close

Changing these settings will allow for the extra functionality and services of the elearning web site.
